Fall ’16: To-Watch List

I swear this blog is still alive!

I apologize for being MIA for a season and a half. I honestly tried to keep up, but it just wasn’t happening. The only show I ended up finishing from my spring to-watch list was flying witch. It was definitely a favorite for me that season. I did drop Kuromukuro even after investing six weeks of my time I wasn’t convinced that show was for me. Out of my list, I do fully intend to finish Joker Game sooner or later; the rest, I’m still a bit dubious (in other words, most likely not).

For the summer line-up, I tried to watch a bunch of pilot episodes, and sure enough, I narrowed 10 shows to a merely three—namely, 91Days, handa-kun, and Mob Psycho 100. That’s a good enough number, I think. I also haven’t finished them (oops), but I will soon!

As for this season, I challenge myself to actually finish what I’ve started. I do believe that’s mostly going to happen for one of my all-time favorites series, Natsume Yuujinchou.

Anticipation Rate: 5/5

Anticipation Rate: 3/5

  • Hibike! Euphonium 2 – You can’t deny the drama and the realness of this series. I’d like to see what they have in store for us this sequel.

Anticipation Rate: 2/5

  • Occultic;Nine – An eye-catching plot! I love me some mystery shows to watch.

Anticipation Rate: 1/5

  • Nanbaka – Colorful poster already made me raise a brow. This looks like it’s going to be a fun ride for the viewers!

So, what would you be watching this season?

Spring ’16: To-Watch List

This season have begun, and I’m actually quite excited with the line up this time around! Last season, there wasn’t any new promising shows except Boku Machi and Rakugo (which I will writing up a “final thoughts” review very soon).

Anticipation Rate: 5/5

  • Bungou Stray Dogs – I like the art style. Bones is a consistent studio. I watched the PV, and plot looks absolutely interesting. It’s definitely the type of show that I watch the most, especially with its seinen and mystery genres.
  • Joker Game – I’m not gonna lie, I’m more interested of the fact that Shirow Miwa did the OC design than the plot itself (LOL). I’m a really huge fan of his works, so that was the initial attraction to this series when he announced he designed for JG. Although I’m inclined to believe that this might not be that bad in terms of the story.
  • Kiznaiver – I have close to zero knowledge regarding this series as it is an original by Trigger. The summary looks intriguing, but someone retweeted this over at Twitter saying it’s some new stuff coming out this spring which was how I knew about this. The only thing I knew were the character design visuals, and I liked it very much. OC design again was done by Shirow Miwa (I didn’t know about that ’til now that I’m writing this post!). The staff working on this seems top tier too.

Anticipation Rate: 3/5

  • Boku no Hero Academia – I was half way through volume 1 before I put a hold on it. I have a little problem with the over-bearing texts this manga has, in my opinion. There’s just so much texts and explanation going on that my attention dwindles down as I read through. So I think the anime will compress all that to people like me ;;
  • flying witch – It’s kind of my SoL pick for this season. Read the manga but haven’t kept up with it though.
  • Sakamoto desu ga? – Read 2/4 volumes of its manga. It’s supposed to be really funny, and heard some good stuff about it which is why I initially picked it up.

Anticipation Rate: 1/5

  • Kuromukuro – I want to see what PA Works has to offer this season. Personally, they’re a hit or miss, but more misses.
  • Tanaka-kun wa Itsumo Kedaruge – Another SoL.
  • Kuma Miko – A bizarre show with a talking bear. Why would it not make you check it out?

So what are some of the shows you might be watching this season?

Winter ’16: To-Watch List

Looks like it’s going to be a dull season, or I’m just getting bored with “quantity over quality” logic. Also, I think I’m exaggerating the ratings a bit (maybe except Akagami no Shirayuki-hime 2).

Anticipation Rate: 3/5

  • Akagami no Shirayuki-hime 2 – I initially didn’t like the first half of the first season, but eventually grew to like it. I’m a bit obsessed with Obi and Shirayuki even though I know it’s never going to happen.
  • Dimension W – I watched the PV, and I’m a bit intrigued. The art and animation looks pretty cool too.
  • Reikenzan: Hoshikuzu-tachi no Utage – Quite honestly, I don’t know much about the series, but fantasy/magic shows is a nice change of genre from the usual titles I watch.

Anticipation Rate: 2/5

  • Dagashi Kashi – I love comedy shows, and I read some reviews that it’s really nice. Another thing was that I was honestly racking my brain why Shidare’s face looks so fucking familiar. Maybe I’ve seen manga caps of the series on Tumblr? Not too sure. But then something also clicked, the art style is like ahegao on Japanese porn. (lmfao)
  • Musaigen no Phantom World – A few months back I wanted to read the light novel so badly I even thought of importing it, but shipping is expensive. The plot sounded interesting, but seeing the PV I didn’t think it would look a bit too light-hearted for my taste. However, KyoAni never fails with the art and animation.
  • Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu – Randomly found it on Natalie when they posted news that an anime adaptation was green lit. Just want to check it out.

Anticipation Rate: 1/5

  • Hai to Gensou no Grimgar – Looks like they didn’t have a lot of budget in the animation. Not really into MMORPG shows, but I’m going to give it a try. I feel like I might drop it though like what I did with Log Horizon and Accel World.
  • Prince of Stride: Alternative – Sports anime? PV wasn’t really eye-catching though. Its animation… no comment.

*Bolded: sure to watch.
